Typing a Research Paper with Works Cited Page

 

RESEARCH PAPER REQUIREMENTS:

·        Set all margins to one inch.

·        Change the font to 12 points.

·        The entire paper must be double-spaced.

·        All pages except the title page, must have your last name and the page number right aligned 0.5" from the top. Put this information in a "Header."

·        Let each line word wrap. Press ENTER only at the end of paragraphs or headings.

·        SAVE your document frequently—at least after every paragraph.

 

DIRECTIONS FOR TYPING A TITLE PAGE

  1. To set margins:
    1. <click> FILE, PAGE SETUP, MARGINS
    2. <set> top, bottom, left, right to 1.0" AND <click> OK.
  1. To create a "Header:”

a.       <click> VIEW, HEADER/FOOTER

      1. <click> ALIGN RIGHT icon on toolbar
      2. <type> only your last name
      3. <press space bar> once
      4. <click> INSERT, PAGE NUMBER
      5. <click> OK
      6. <click> CLOSE on the Header tool bar or double click on the page

b.      To keep the Header from showing on the title page:

      1. <click> FILE, PAGE SETUP, LAYOUT
      2. <click> DIFFERENT FIRST PAGE (under header and footer)
      3. <click> OK
  1. To set line spacing to "double"
    1. <click> FORMAT, PARAGRAPH, LINE SPACING, DOUBLE, OK
  1. To center the title horizontally and vertically on the page:
    1. <press> ENTER to move to line 4.0" (approximately)
    2. <click> ALIGN CENTER icon on toolbar
    3. <type> the title
    4. <press> ENTER
    5. <click> ALIGN LEFT icon on toolbar
  1. To type the MLA Heading near bottom of the page
    1. <press> ENTER to move to line 7.0" (approximately)
    2. <press> TAB key to move to the middle of the paper (3.5")
    3. <type> the MLA Heading

6.      SAVE

7. To make a new page to begin typing your paper
    1. <press> CTRL+ENTER
    2. <click> ALIGN CENTER
    3. <type> the title
    4. <press> ENTER
    5. <click> ALIGN LEFT
8. To indent first line in paragraph
    1. <press> TAB key once
    2. <word wrap> all lines. Press ENTER at end of paragraph

9.     SAVE

DIRECTIONS FOR TYPING WORKS CITED PAGES

  1. "Works Cited" must start on a new page
    1. <to start a new page press> CTRL+ENTER
    2. <click>  ALIGN CENTER
    3. <type>  Works Cited
    4. <press> ENTER
    5. <click> ALIGN LEFT
  1. To set the "Hanging Indent" feature
    1. <click> FORMAT, PARAGRAPH, SPECIAL, HANGING, OK
  1. Type the information for each source that you used.
  2. If you lose the hanging indent or double spacing
  3. <select> from the first line to the end of the "Works Cited" page(s)
    1.
